The mesmerizing attractions of the city are simply an amalgam of its unmatched culture, traditions, beauty, heritage, festivals, events and ancient stories. Here are some of the incredible destinations that attract you to travel to this beautiful destination in order to explore the beauty of Rishikesh!

 

(1) LaxmanJhula

Globally famous for its hanging bridge; LakshmanJhula or LaxmanJhula is a famous landmark in the city of Rishikesh. This holy destination in Rishikesh has now become renowned as a wonderful spot for Adventure Activities among travelers and local peoples. The swinging glory of the place connects two villages namely, "Tapovan" and "Jonk". Going through the story of ancient times; we came to know that "Lord Lakshman" (younger brother of Lord Ram) once visited this place for a deep penance and so he built a jute suspension bridge to cross the River Ganga. Later, at the same site, a new iron suspension bridge was built & known as "LakshmanJhula". The bridge offers an awe-inspiring view of nearby temples, mountains and The Ganges.

 

(2) Ram Jhula

Ramjhula is a famous spiritual destination of Rishikesh with an array of famous & accredited temples and ashrams. Apart from all this, the hanging bridge and wonderful market of continuously increasing the charm of the place. In the year of 1986; the bridge of Ramjhua was built with a height of around 450 ft. The bridge connects the area of Swarg Ashram to the area of Shivanada Ashram and gives a breathtaking view of the Garhwal Himalayas and pious river Ganga. Ramjhula has so much to offer; from the temple, ashrams to yoga & meditation centres, there is much to explore & experience. ParmarthNiketan Ashram, YogNiketan, Swarg Ashram, Gita Bhawan are some of the famed ashrams in Ramjhula.

 

(3) The Beatles Ashram

Beatles Ashram; also known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Ashram or ChaurasiKutia is really afavourite photography spot among travelers and local peoples. The ashram came into the eyes of everyone after famous music band group, "Beatles" visited the place for the sole aim of gaining the proper knowledge of meditation from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his ashram. After which, the place became a preferable spot for yoga, meditation and photography. The silence, peace and amazing wall art of the place attract you towards it and lures you to a fantastic photography session. The Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh is certainly among the most visited place in Rishikesh by tourists and travelers.

 

(4) Raja Ji National Park

Rajaji National Park; a famous Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand is established in the year of 1983. The national park in Uttarakhand was formed by the amalgamation of Rajaji sanctuary, Chilla sanctuary and Motichur sanctuary; all are the famous sanctuaries of Uttarakhand. Spread over an area of about 820 km square; Raja Ji National Park covers the three important districts of Uttarakhand, i.e., Dehradun, Haridwar and PauriGarhwal. The tiger reserve covers the range of the Shivalik Hills near the Himalayan foothills. Raja Ji National Park was named after "Late Sri C Rajgopalachari", who was a leader of the freedom struggle and second & last governor of Independent India. The rich flora & fauna of the place will definitely leave you amazed.

 

(5) NeelkanthMahadev Temple

A sacred abode of "Mahadev"; NeelkanthMahadev Temple is situated at a height of 1330 m amidst the sylvan forest. The famous & accredited temple of NeelkanthMahadev is surrounded by the valleys of Manikoot, Brahmakoot and Vishnukoot. As per the mythological belief behind this temple; Gods (Devas) and Demons (Asuras) churned the ocean to get Amrit (Nectar) but in its place vish (Poison) originated from the sea which became a menace to the earth but Lord Shiva drank the poison in order to protect earth from that harm of it. This great action of Shiva turned his throat to the blue color and so from that time; he is also known with the name "Neelkanth". It is the same place where he drank that poison!

 

(6) TriveniGhat

The confluence of three pious Hindu Rivers; Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, "TriveniGhat" is a sacred bathing ghat located in the main city of Rishikesh. It is also believed that taking a bath or dip in the holy water of the ghat will wash away all the sins of a person and open their path towards "MOKSHA" or "Salvation". The beauty and charm of the place is really incredible and the best attraction of TriveniGhat is the 'Evening Ganga Aarti", organised by "Ganga Sabha" and performed by all the devotees. The mesmerizing Bhajans&Kirtans increases the charm of the Aarti. One can really get a feeling of peace by just sitting quietly at the banks of the River Ganges and lost in the beauty of it.

 

(7) NeerGaddu Waterfall

Situated at a distance of just 9 km away from the main city of Rishikesh; NeerGarh Waterfall or NeerGaddu Waterfall is a stunning waterfall loved by travelers and local peoples in a great number. In order to witness the extraordinary beauty of the waterfall; one has to go through an exciting trek. Just one cool and refreshing dip in the water of it will disappear the fatigue and make you completely relaxed. NeerGaddu Waterfall comprises of two bathing pools; one after the distance of 200 m trek and other after the further distance of 1.2 km trek. Certainly, if you want an adventurous yet exciting walkway, then NeerGaddu Waterfall should be on your priority list.

 

(8) Swarg Ashram

Established in the memory of Swami Vishudhanand or Kali KamliWala; Swarg Ashram is located between Ram Jhula&LaxmanJhula, on the eastern banks or the pious river Ganga. Swarg Ashram in Rishikesh is quite much popular among people. There are two simple ways to reach the beautiful Swarg Ashram from Ramjhual, i.e., the first way that simply take you by boat and the other way that take you to the Ashram by walking through the Ramjhula Bridge. The stunning beauty and relaxing environment will surely make you feel incredible. Around the Swarg Ashram, you can also find temples, ashrams, yoga centres. libraries, cafes, shopping sites, Ayurvedic dispensaries, parks, hotels and more.

 

(9) GeetaBhawan

Amidst the Garhwal Himalayas; 'GeetaBhawan" is located on the banks of pious River Ganga. The GeetaBhawan is certainly a gift to visitors as it offers free shelter to visitors in its 1000 rooms. It is located on the area of Swarg Ashram in Rishikesh. GeetaBhawan is a part of Gita Press, a famed publication press of Hindu Books. The books published by Gita Press are normally spiritual such as Gita, Ramanaya, SrimadBhagvat, Vishnu Purana and other Upanishads. The books published in many languages such as Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Tamil, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Odiya and so on. (10) VashishtaGufa

Located in a serene and peaceful location on the banks of the River Ganga; "VashishtaGufaor Cave" is away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The archaic location of the cave is covered by the Himalayas which certainly gives a really peaceful feeling. The distance of the Gufa from Tapovan is about 17 km and 6 km from the Shivpuri. There is also a small village namely, Gular Village located near the ashram. The story behind the VashishtaGufa is such; "Once Sage Vashishta with his wife Arundhati came this place and performed a deep penance for several years in order to overcome from the sorrow of their children's death. From that time, the place is known with the name, VashishtaGufa".

 

(11) Kunjapuri Temple

Perched at a height of about 1700 meters; Kunjapuri Temple is one of the most visited places by the travelers as well as local peoples. Basically, there are two main reasons to visit Kunjapuri; firstly the accreditation of the temple as a "Siddhi Peeth" or "Shakti Peeth" and secondly the stunning & mesmerizing view of sunrise and sunset witness from the temple. It is believed that this is the same place where the chest of burned Sati was fallen when Lord Shiva takes her burned body to Kailash. Devi Sati was a first wife of Lord Shiva and also a reincarnation of Goddess Parvati. From the temple, you can also witness the peaks of SwargaRohini, Banderpunch, Chaukhamba and Gangotri.

 

(12) ParmathNiketan Temple

Swami ShukdevanandjiMaharaj founded ParmarthNiketan in the year of 1942. It is among the oldest ashrams in Rishikesh. Since 1986, Swami ChidanandaSaraswatijiMaharaj is the President and Spiritual Head of ParmarthNiketan. ParmarthNiketan is located on a picturesque location offering the panoramic view of the River Ganges and the Garhwal Himalayas. The statue of Lord Shiva, located in-between the Ganga and the statue of Lord Hanuman located at the entry of the Parmarth Ashram premises increases the charm of the place. Moreover, the pleasant and soothing Maa Ganga Aarti performed every evening at ParmarthNiketan is must to witness.

 

(13) Patna Waterfall

Every waterfall of the Rishikesh has something different to explore and experience. Patna Waterfall located 13 km away from the main city of Rishikesh is one of the famous waterfalls in the city. The steep yet exciting trek to the waterfall is really fun to experience. Next to the waterfall, there is the famous limestone caves. The beautiful trek of 1.5 km takes you to the stupendous Patna Waterfall in Patna Village. It is not advised to visit the waterfall in summer as it becomes almost dry during that time and there is nothing much to enjoy then. The incredible view of the little shower falling from the stones of the waterfall is really wondrous and simply can't explain in words.

 

 

(14) Bharat Mandir

Located in the heart of the TriveniGhat; Bharat Mandir is an ancient shrine dedicated to "Lord Bharat". The temple was established in 789 A.D. by JagadguruAdiShankaracharya, on the day of BasantPanchami and so every year, on the day of BasantPanchmi, the Shaligram from the temple is taken for a holy bath in the sacred river of Ganga and after that, it is taken in a great procession through the city. The Bharat Temple is also mentioned in the holy books of Vishnu Puran, VamanPuran, Shrimadbhagwat, Mahabharat and NarsinghPuran. It is also believed that taking 108 pheris (rounds) of the temple on the day of AkshayaTritiya gives saintly as of the pilgrimage to Badrinath.

 

(15) Gurdwara Sri Hemkund Sahib

The starting point of the "HemkunthYatra" is basically this famous gurudwara in Rishikesh with the name, "Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara". This beautiful gurudwara located in Rishikesh was built by Sikh devotees in the year of 1964! Langar& Tea are continuously served day and night at the Gurudwara. The main gurudwara of Sri Hemkund Sahib is in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is said that there are two handwritten copies of Guru Granth Sahib are present there. This gurudwara in Rishikesh is the place from where devotees start their journey to the Chamoli. The peace and feeling of calmness one can get here is too good that you wish to visit here again and again.

 

(16) Bhootnath Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva; "Bhootnath Temple" is a famous temple in Rishikesh located in the peaceful area of Swargashram. As per Hindu Mythology; it is the same place where Lord Shiva and his Baraat took rest while going to marry Devi Sati. The temple has multiple floors with the statue of deities (such as Nandi, Hanumana and more) located on every floor. At the 7th floor of the temple; you can see a Shivalinga surrounded by 10 bells, the best part is that each bell has a different sound. From that floor, you can also witness the stunning panoramic view of Ramjhula. The beautiful temple is located in a very peaceful location away from the horde of the people.

 

(17) Byasi

Byasi is located on NH-58 at Badrinath road in Uttarakhand, India! The location of Byasi is really magical and will definitely fascinate you with its beauty and charm as it is located on the banks of the River Ganges surrounded by the dense forest of Sal. Byasi is actually a small village away from the distance of 30 km from Rishikesh. Byasi is famous for its bridge and for the adventure activities it offered. Rafting & Camping are the most preferedadventurous activities that can be experienced here. Both the adventure activity will give you a damn awesome feeling as rafting on the consistent flow of the River Ganga and Camping at the peaceful location of Byasi are wondrous.

 

(18) Jumping Heights

(19) Madhuban Ashram

Madhuban Ashram in Rishikesh is the chain of ISKCON temple that follows all its tradition and culture. The beautiful temple of Madhuban Ashram located at the area of Muni kiReti in Rishikesh is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The area of Muni-kiReti (Sands of the Sages) is traditionally considered as the Gateway to Char DhamYatra of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The structure and design of the temple are damn fascinating and charming. Besides the beautiful temple, Madhuban Ashram is also has a wonderful park with several statues including the statue of Lord Shiva, Bal-Krishna, Krishna &Sudama and so on.  The temple is dedicated to the service of Sri RadhaGovindji.

 

(20) Vanprastha Ashram

Located in the serene city of Rishikesh, near the pious river Ganga "Vanprastha Ashram" is a beautiful ashram founded by Baba Kali Kamli Wale. The ashram is also has a spacious and beautiful garden which is certainly the best attraction of it. The garden in the ashram repletes with varieties of beautiful flowers and trees. The ashram has also accommodation facilities for visitors. Talking about the rooms at Vanprastha Ashram; they are quite enormous equipped with modern facilities. Also, the rooms are sanitated, neat and clean with a comfortable and pleasant stay. At morning and evening time, one can also take the amaze of Aarti, Bhajans and Kirtansorganised here.

 

(21) Shivpuri

Shivpuri is a small, serene and beautiful location situated just 19 km away from the main city of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand at the National Highway between Rishikesh and Patisira. Shivpuri witness a wonderful view of the spectacular Garhwal Mountains and River Ganges. The word "Shivpuri" simply means "The Abode of Lord Shiva"! If you are crazy enough for river rafting or love to explore the nature, then Shivpuri is the location provides you with all as it is an exciting spot for adventures such as Rafting and Camping. Tourists, as well as Local People, visit Shivpuri with the keen dream for enjoying Rafting and Camping in such a scenic location.
